FYI: This struck home to me as when stationed in the Philippines in the early 80s we lived off base in a subdivision that was walled and roaming 24 hour guards and all the homes for rent by us had bars on the windows which was standard due to the high [in that case mostly theft] crimes. I remember one morning I heard a rifle being fired, and not much later when driving out to go to the airbase I observed one of the Philippine guards dragging a body by the leg.
