John Deere moves jobs to Mexico, large US layoffs

Over 600 John Deere employees across three different plants will be laid off in late August. Effective August 30, roughly 280 production workers in the East Moline, IL location, 230 production workers at the Davenport location, and 100 production workers at the Dubuque location will be laid off. The company says that the additional layoffs are happening due to a reduced demand for the products made at those facilities and a lull in projected sales for the remainder of the year. Before the latest round of layoffs, hundreds of employees were already laid off in Waterloo this year. 300 workers were impacted in April and an additional 192 were impacted in June.

And yet, unemployment remains at historically low levels. Maybe it's corporate greed?

Back in the day, fmr Pres Trump's tariffs against China did little for onshoring of jobs.
What they seemed to do was move jobs from China to Vietnam.

Vietnam Looks To Be Winning Trump's Trade War (2019)
www.cfr.org

... Vietnam's exports to the U.S. are growing fast. It also runs an overall current account surplus. If it has resumed purchasing dollars in the foreign exchange market to keep its currency from appreciating, it may soon be a test case for Trump's policy toward countries that intervene to maintain an undervalued currency. ...

So, it seems that corporations will just move their operations to the countries where they can import their gooods for the lowest possible price.

And, now, apparently, to Mexico?

Undercutting American workers.

What is the actual problem here?

Maybe Capitalism and its unrelenting pursuit of profits?

It's Nothing Personal, just Good Bidness.

I hope they still want to buy John Deere products with the money they earn at their New Jobs.

If the minimum wage was lower they could've stayed. Now the Mexicans get to Earn instead.

Maybe The SCOTUS Will declare the minimum wage Unconstitutional and all these Good jobs can come back.

If they can repeal Medicaid and Social Security life will be just great for the Donors.

Our Republic working as intended.

Lol.

The Trump tax cut made it even more PROFITABLE to move jobs offshore.

Everything he promised he failed on.

Biden shipping more jobs outside the US as is standard Democrat policy. Probably why full time jobs under Biden have decreased since Jan 2023 - wages go up due to inflation so Biden tells the companies to move to Mexico or overseas.
