Over 600 John Deere employees across three different plants will be laid off in late August. Effective August 30, roughly 280 production workers in the East Moline, IL location, 230 production workers at the Davenport location, and 100 production workers at the Dubuque location will be laid off. The company says that the additional layoffs are happening due to a reduced demand for the products made at those facilities and a lull in projected sales for the remainder of the year. Before the latest round of layoffs, hundreds of employees were already laid off in Waterloo this year. 300 workers were impacted in April and an additional 192 were impacted in June.
Back in the day, fmr Pres Trump's tariffs against China did little for onshoring of jobs.
What they seemed to do was move jobs from China to Vietnam.
