Some Bit of Good News From Mother Nature During These Times

Scientists have identified a new species of ladybird spider in Morocco with an unusual and striking red coloration and an elusive endangered wild cat was seen in Thailand for the first time in 30 years.

Comments

The newly described species of ladybird spider, named Eresus rubrocephalus, was found near Sidi Allal El Bahraoui, northeast of Rabat, Morocco. Unlike other known ladybird spiders, whose heads are typically black, this species stands out because its entire head and body are covered in deep carmine-red hairs. This feature has never been documented before in the genus Eresus.

An elusive wild cat long feared extinct in Thailand has been rediscovered three decades after the last recorded sighting.
Flat-headed cats are among the world's most threatened wild felines, with the International Union for Conservation of Nature estimating that just 2,500 adults exist in the wild. The rare animals are about the size of a domestic cat and have distinctive, round, close-set eyes.

These little cats purr, which would make LegallyYourDead extra happy.

Being totally ignorant as to the ladybird spider, I opted for a brief trip down the proverbial rabbit hole. And that's where I learned a new word: matripjagy? Whoosh. Live and learn. Thanks for posting that key to a small rabbit hole door, always interesting.

"Matriphagy," not "matripjagy."
