Guitarist George Lynch compares Don Dokken to Trump

Lynch, who often makes controversial remarks about his bandmate in the press, continued, "I always say Don has the same exact personality traits and character as [Donald] Trump, except Trump's a better singer."

And they're both named Donald.

Some of you may recall that George started a band called "Lynch Mob" since the 90s. He said he was going to retire the name in 2020 due the connotations that some people perceive or read into it, but then later changed his mind.

Dokken? WTF is this, 1982?

#3 | Posted by LegallyYourDead at 2026-02-21 11:38 AM

I frequently see ramshackle Dokken cassettes in the dollar bin at my local Goodwill. Usually they are there for a few weeks before some bewigged, 80s hair metal maven lifts them- or they are just thrown out.

"Dokken? WTF is this, 1982?"

The article is from less than two weeks ago. Many musicians from the 1980's and even much earlier are still active, so I'm not sure what your point is.

"I frequently see ramshackle Dokken cassettes in the dollar bin at my local Goodwill. Usually they are there for a few weeks before some bewigged, 80s hair metal maven lifts them- or they are just thrown out."

So, just like any other compact cassette tape then.

But never mind that, let's talk about the Trump comparison. I know you all want to.

My point, much like the one one top of your head, is that Dokken is a washed up has been, and 1982 was the height of their success, you ------- idiot.

I'm not really knowledgeable about 80s hair bands, but it seems like the bands who had more interesting, marketable names went further although they might've had less talent or songwriting capability. Motley Crue comes to mind. They seem quite subpar talent-wise, but they have one of the greatest band names in rock history. Dokken is a horrible band name, even though it seems they were good songwriters and their guitarist is considered one of the great players of that era.

"Breaking the Chains"

"Dokken is a horrible band name"

I'll agree it's not the catchiest, but it's not horrible. It rhymes with rockin'.

Limp Bizkit, Nickelback, Aborted Hitler ----, The The, Live... now those were horrible band names.

"Breaking the Chains"

As I'm sure you already know, that was their first album. Almost everyone agrees their peak was the 3 albums around 1984-1989, especially when they wrote "Dream Warriors" for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3. There was a lot of tension in the band back then between Dokken and Lynch. Their 1995 album "Dysfunctional" was quite good and underrated. "Shadowlife" was a misfire production-wise, since they were trying to sound alternative/grunge and it didn't work, but they were still giving very solid live performances up until Lynch left the band in late 1997.

Dokken went on to make 6 more albums with different guitarists who were previously in other hair metal bands (Winger, Europe, Warlock).

Lynch has been much more prolific, releasing over 30 albums between solo projects, Lynch Mob, and collaborations with other former Dokken members.

Apparently, Lynch has been touring as a special guest with Dokken the past 5 years. I just found that out now.

Are you his agent, trying to get his name some attention since "the biz" has left him behind?

"Are you his agent, trying to get his name some attention since "the biz" has left him behind?"

Are you referring to Don or George here? :-)

I don't think either of them really need any help from me. I just thought it would be fun to post this article, partly because it brought back old memories, partly because gives a recent update on the two musicians, and partly because the political connection which people on this site usually love to talk about.

I was born in 1991 so I can only judge them in a limited manner and retrospectively, but the best hair metal albums in my opinion are Out of the Cellar by Ratt and Faster Pussycat's first album. The only Dokken song that I recall being interesting is "In My Dreams" but the video for it, which I recently watched on YT, is pretty self-serious and a bit laughable.
