"Fahrenheit 11/9" - How Fascism Starts - Michael Moore

Apr 7, 2026

A scene from Michael Moore's 2018 film, "Fahrenheit 11/9." This sequence maps the rise of fascism in Nazi Germany onto the rise of fascism in the United States.

Related, from Historian Tim Snyder:

"Another possibility is that Iranians do nothing inside US borders, but Trump and his people pretend that they have, or even organize a fake terrorist strike themselves.

It is important to understand that such things do happen, and have been done by the people Trump admires the most.

Consider the 1999 false flag terrorist attacks in Russia, the bombing of apartment buildings by the Russian secret services, which began a chain of events that allowed Putin begin his march towards dictatorship.

Self-terror is a Putinist strategy, and it worked. This means that it can be presumed to have been considered by Trump, Putin's client in the White House.

Putin is one of the people to whom Trump listens."

This has been coming on since Newt Gingrich met Rush and Roger Ailes and "liberal" became some sort of pejorative.

Bubba may have made a mistake, but Republicans plotted for decades to give us Corporate Personhood and Citizens United, a stacked SC, and Project25 and the now Twice Worst President Ever.

Those two things aren't really the same.

Merrick Garland F'd up terribly, but he wasn't Mitch McConnell or John Eastman, either.

Bill did nothing to stop it or reverse the effects. His record on bills effecting Wall St, Labor and Communications policies is, essentially, old school Republican. His tanking of financial regs like Glass/Steagal is what bought Hilly her Senate seat in NY. Bill was a scumbag.

"His record on bills effecting Wall St, Labor and Communications policies is, essentially, old school Republican."

Clinton and every Democrat since. Eisenhower Republicans when it comes to the economy.

Republicans, meanwhile, spend like drunken sailors, borrow like college students, believe cutting taxes increases revenues, and tell us other countries pay our import tariffs.
