LA: Deputy US Marshal Who Severely Beat Inmate is Convicted

A federal jury convicted Deputy United States Marshal Joshua Firmin of subjecting a prisoner to cruel and unusual punishment by severely assaulting the victim without cause. Firmin was also convicted of obstruction of justice for writing a false report in an attempt to cover up his horrendous and unwarranted attack on the defenseless prisoner.

"In Feb 2024, DUSM Joshua Firmin was told that a prisoner being held in a cell in the Lafayette federal courthouse had made some comments about him. Firmin went up to the cell, struck the victim in the face with a ring of cell keys, pulled the prisoner out and threw the inmate-- who was wearing handcuffs, ankle shackles, and a belly chain -- against a wall. The victim hit his head and the wound required several staples to close. DUSM Firmin then lied in his US Marshals Service Operational Report, saying he was trying to stop the prisoner from spitting on him when the incident occurred."

~snip~

An AI snapshot suggests the man thrashed about mercilessly by ex-DUSM Joshua Firmin is Seth Dickerson. A sentencing date has not been reported and Seth Dickerson can provide a Victim Impact Statement by letter or in person if the Court makes him available.

On 9 Feb 2024, DUSM Joshua Firmin recklessly threw his career and life away in rapid order and will spend years together with the same prisoners he once cruelly dealt with.

Americans should expect much better from Deputy United States Marshals who represent one of our country's oldest law-enforcement agencies, established by Congress in 1789.
