Jews Condemn Bezalel Smotrich Being in NYC Parade

Jewish groups condemned Israeli cabinet ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Amichay Eliyahu for marching in the NYC Israel Day parade. In 2021, Smotrich said that Israel's first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion, should have "finished the job" and kicked all Arabs out of the country in 1948. Eliyahu had suggested that Israel drop a nuclear bomb on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

RUMINT: The ICC may indict Bezalel Smotrich for alleged war crimes, just like Benjamin Netanyahu and ex-IDF General Yoav Gallant

Dynamic Zohran Mamdani (D) skipped the parade, the first NYC Mayor ever to not kowtow to AIPAC.

He declared Smotrich's "presence in our city is an affront to everything New York stands for."

NYS AG Letitia James (D), who backed the Jewish community in a speech at the parade, said, "Islamophobia has no place in New York. I unequivocally condemn Bezalel Smotrich's hateful rhetoric."

Former NYC Comptroller Brad Lander is challenging incumbent US Representative Dan Goldman (D) for NY's 10th Congressional District, covering lower Manhattan and part of Brooklyn, and he weighed in on the repulsive Bezalel Smotrich.

"We're both proud Jewish New Yorkers. But there are sharp and clear differences between us on Israel/Palestine," Lander said.

"For example, Dan Goldman marched alongside war criminal Bezalel Smotrich yesterday, who called it "just and moral" to starve Gaza. I did not."

Brad Lander is a mensch, wealthy Dan Goldman is not. This is why Brad Lander has a 34-point lead on Goldman; Zohran Mamdani is endorsing Lander.

His grandfather and great-uncle weep ...

"His father comes from an Orthodox Jewish family of Ashkenazi Jewish descent from Ukraine, and his mother is a Catholic of Irish, French, Scottish, and English descent. He was raised Catholic, but his mother would also "incorporate Hanukkah" in the family's holiday celebrations."

Yeah, Mayor Mamdani has a point.

Brooklyn, NYC, NY, US has the largest Jewish population outside of Israel.

Mayor Mamdani's comment is significant.

Israel went fascist when the fascists killed the liberal Prime Minister.

While I don't agree with the headline, there's this ...

Brooklyn, the Most Jewish Spot on Earth (2018)
www.hadassahmagazine.org

... By any measure, Brooklyn is the most Jewish place in America. Approximately 600,000 Jews now call the borough home, down from an incredible 900,000 in the 1940s. One in four Brooklyn residents is Jewish, the largest proportion by far among New York City's five boroughs, according to the most recent survey by the UJA-Federation of New York.

"There are more Jews right now in Brooklyn than anywhere else in the world, including the city of Tel Aviv," said Ron Schweiger, the borough's official historian, whose Flatlands home is a shrine to the long-vanished Brooklyn Dodgers (the team moved to Los Angeles in 1957). ...

Yet, NYC elected Mayor Mamdani.

#12 And Hooray! they did, Lamp.

'Twas a real step towards the future.

Don't fear the next generation; at one time we were all the next generation.

You're most welcome, ExpectingReign.

Long time no chat.

And NYC has some of the best teachers in the world, thanks to that large Jewish population.

Zohran Mamdani (D) pointed one out at a City Hall function a few weeks ago.

"See, I told you years ago that you could it make it, Mr Mayor!"

@#14 ... And NYC has some of the best teachers in the world, thanks to that large Jewish population. ...

While I do agree about the quality of some of the NYC teachers, I remain reluctant to ascribe that quality to being Jewish.

OK, I attended one of NYC's specialized high schools, as I have noted here a number of times previously.

Brooklyn Technical High School
en.wikipedia.org

I did not notice a large percentage of Jewish teachers there.

Of course, I have to add, that I was not looking at the religion of the teachers. I did not care back then, and do not care now, about the religious affiliation of a person (or skin color, for that matter).

So, who am I to know?
