ICE Sued Over 'inhumane' Conditions at Camp East Montana in West Texas

"Camp East Montana is nothing short of a civil rights catastrophe," Kyle Virgien, senior staff attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union's National Prison Project, said in a statement. "We're suing to ensure that no other human being has to endure the inhumane treatment that the Trump administration has inflicted on our clients."

Great news: the courts will have a chance to rein in the abuses at Camp East Montana, the infamous tent camp built on Fort Bliss in El Paso. I have known seasoned veterans of this field who visited the camp and came away saying it was one of the worst ICE detention centers they'd ever been to.

The cruelty is the point.

Republicans know that showimg miserable brown detainees in their political ads will lure the faithful to the voting booths.

Cruelty? Dems tell us these detainees crossed the desert and dangerous rivers and through jungles to get here (miraculously they kept their cell phones charged and working the whole way) and now they are getting a bed, 3 meals a day and 24 hour health care but they are subject to cruelty.

Bashing someone's head into the wall, then calling it a suicide is cruelty.

Its 2026: People hailing from some surprisingly remote, seemingly off-track places carry cell phones.

The people some of us used to help with food and water in the Sonoran desert were not looking to bunk in a federal concentration camp.

You have a helluva lot of catching up to do, vato.

A pretty non-controversial definition: "A concentration camp is a prison or other facility used for the internment of political prisoners or politically targeted demographics, such as members of national or ethnic minority groups, on the grounds of national security, or for exploitation or punishment" (en.wikipedia.org).

Por ejemplo (same source):

Prominent examples of historic concentration camps include the Nazi concentration camps (which later morphed into extermination camps), the British confinement of non-combatants during the Second Boer War, the internment of German, Italian, and Japanese Americans by the US during the Second World War, and the Soviet labour camps or gulag.

What do you think of adding the creation of America's Indian reservations? Just curious.

"Concentration".

As in they are concentrated into one miserable camp.

This is funny stuff. To Turds.

Maybe he thinks it means one of them camps where everyone stares real hard at things.

Like goats. (Based on a true story)

This is hilarious. The prison camps in the discussion do not care one bit where someone is from, what their religion is or where their political sentiments lie. It's based on illegal entry into our country. I bet you I've been to at least ten countries that you won't sneak into without facing a similar backlash. It's past time that we quit letting our borders be trampled and do something about illegal immigration.

#14 | Posted by lfthndthrds at 2026-06-01 06:04 PM

"It's based on illegal entry into our country."

As adjudicated in a court of law, or as alleged by the ICE guy getting the bonus?

"The prison camps in the discussion do not care one bit where someone is from"

Yes they do.

"illegal entry into our country" is a crime because of "where someone is from."

You lie to yourself, and you don't even realize you're doing it.
