Michael Starr Hopkins: The Republican Party's efforts to drastically limit if not completely eradicate access to abortion in Florida and Arizona is not isolated. It is part of a larger, insidious plan to ban abortion nationwide.
So many thoughts...
1. The Comstock Act does not stop at abortion. It covers the interstate transfer of pornographic material. After abortion how long before the religious whackjobs come after Pornhub etc.?
2. The AZ law is even worse than it appears. The use of IUD's, morning after pill and IVF are all directly challenged by this law.
3. Fetal Personhood is the goal-to give equal rights to a clump of cells at the moment a sperm joins an egg. That should terrify people-it is literal handmaid's tale type stuff and the groundwork is being lain for it in court challenges, arguments and decisions and in laws being passed by religious fanatics who, IMHO are literally insane.
4. The day before the AZ judgement came down an AZ state senator brought anti-abortion fanatics to the well of the AZ statehouse to pray including speaking in tongues. www.google.com
This is literal insanity driving national policy.
5. The religious fringe fanatics represent a small minority of the population yet are controlling our national politics. The one thing that is, at this moment, a kernel in the back of my mind is that I believe they have bit off more than they can chew and 2024 could see a blue wave of unprecedented proportions. The alternative is just too insane to consider.
