Cities Are Sinking All Over the Planet

A study of cities in China found that 45 percent of them, which are home to 270 million urban residents, are sinking. Among them are Beijing and Tiajin, which are sinking by 10 millimeters a year or more. The problem affects roads, pipelines and other infrastructure and is occurring in cities globally. "Land is sinking almost everywhere," said researcher Manoochehr Shirzaei.

Futurity: "Land sinking is mainly caused by human action in the cities. Groundwater withdrawal, which lowers the water table, is considered the most important driver of subsidence, combined with geology and weight of buildings. Recharging the aquifer and reducing pumping can immediately mitigate land sinking."

"Cities are sinking all over the planet."

For a minute I thought that was a National Inquirer headline.

Honestly, as one who is the same age as Trump, I have so little faith in the future, in the ability of the human race to fix the major problems it faces, I am glad I probably won't be around in ten years.
