Over 100 Far-right Militias Are Coordinating on Facebook

Despite bans on militias, Facebook continues to struggle with content moderation.

... After lying low for several years in the aftermath of the US Capitol riot on January 6, militia extremists have been quietly reorganizing, ramping up recruitment and rhetoric on Facebook"with apparently little concern that Meta will enforce its ban against them, according to new research by the Tech Transparency Project, shared exclusively with WIRED.

Individuals across the US with long-standing ties to militia groups are creating networks of Facebook pages, urging others to recruit "active patriots" and attend meetups, and openly associating themselves with known militia-related sub-ideologies like that of the anti-government Three Percenter movement. They're also advertising combat training and telling their followers to be "prepared" for whatever lies ahead. These groups are trying to facilitate local organizing, state by state and county by county.

Their goals are vague, but many of their posts convey a general sense of urgency about the need to prepare for "war" or to "stand up" against many supposed enemies, including drag queens, immigrants, pro-Palestine college students, communists"and the US government.

These groups are also rebuilding at a moment when anti-government rhetoric has continued to surge in mainstream political discourse ahead of a contentious, high-stakes presidential election. And by doing all of this on Facebook, they're hoping to reach a broader pool of prospective recruits than they would on a comparatively fringe platform like Telegram. ...

LAMP

Are these the same pot-bellied beer guzzlers who used to hang out in the woods and called themself survivalists?

If these losers try anything, they might be surprised by the number of people willing to confront them.

After watching antifa and the pro-intafada crowd, I'd call it a toss up.

There was a great moment in the movie Civil War. It was so good they put it in the trailer.

When some journalist ran into some militia.

The militia asked them what kind of Americans were they. And if they answered wrong they were shot.

Yeah. That's one fine dream these folks have for America.

More like a dystopian nightmare.

I think the Pro-Palestine college students thing is weird.

You'd think antisemites would stick together.

They certainly did 80 years ago, when the Palestinians aligned themselves with the German National Socialists.

Might help to build a wall around Idaho.

REDIAL

I remember Idaho used to be the sanctuary for "disgrace to the uniform" police officers from California and 4F military types.

And also where Mark Fuhrman ended up retiring.

"Might help to build a wall around Idaho."

Idaho is a terrible place.

No one should even think of considering moving there.

No vacancy.

Which part of Idaho are you living in?

Haha.

I was born in Idaho. Love the place.

It would be perfect if the rest of my family wasn't there.

But, Twin Falls/Boise/Hailey is where my people are at.

A bunch of Bay Area people who decided they didn't like CA anymore. I take great joy in reminding them I am the only native Idahoan.

They're just tourists.

I also spent a significant number of years in Portland. It used to be OK too.

So what's the big deal with Idaho now?

#14 | Posted by Twinpac at 2024-05-04 03:15 PM

That whole upper panhandle is like another planet. Giant flags everywhere... religious rants spraypainted of sheets of plywood out by the mailbox.

Sandpoint, Bonner's Ferry, Hayden, Coeur d'Alene... yikes!

Idaho is a beautiful state that is being ruined by militia groups and far right extremists. When the Civil War starts I don't recommend cutting through Idaho to get to the Republic of California. I would recommend going around. If they catch you they will probably want to know what kind of American you are. So they can decide whether to take you to the gravel pit or not.

Those potato heads will get fried, diced, and mashed.

They ar coordinating of Facebook? Better have the FBI look into the people who used to run Parler and charge them for facilitating a conspiracy on their platform.

#18 | Posted by BellRinger at 2024-05-04 04:18 PM

What do these idiots think they'll be able to do?

Go up against police, federal agents, the National Guard, and average Americans who have guns too?

Good luck with that, morons.

DONNERBOY

I'm sorry to hear that. I was under the impression that Idaho had run them out of the state a long time ago. I remember reading a story about some of Idaho's social rejects turning up in North Carolina and getting arrested for outstanding warrants, robbing convenient stores and generally trying to terrorize a nearby small town with their mere presence.

Why does the State of Idaho tolerate these unemployable low lifes?

"I was under the impression that Idaho had run them out of the state a long time ago."

Georgia ran them out. Idaho is where they fled to.

There may be some, but they are vastly outnumbered by the newly arrived immigrants from California.

I don't know that I could afford to live in Boise anymore. And I definitely couldn't afford Hailey or Sun Valley.
