1) Canada has its first-ever minister of artificial intelligence (AI). Evan Solomon will have a massive job touching nearly every aspect of Canada's economy, government, and national security. Liberal PM Mark Carney had called for sweeping use of AI to create the "economy of the future," incentivize businesses to adopt AI, and build the requisite infrastructure. When it comes to the federal government, AI will be used to slash repetitive tasks and reduce costs in the public service. Solomon will also oversee digital transformation. 2) Turkiye unveiled the modernized Bayraktar TB2 drone enhanced with AI and capable of recognizing targets, making decisions in real time, and operating autonomously. During the initial Russian onslaught against Ukraine, the Bayraktar TB2 was a powerful weapon, but the Kremlin developed successful air defense countermeasures, limiting their effectiveness and use by Kiev.
Meanwhile, the Rand Corporation advises that "extinction threats posed by AI are immensely challenging but cannot be ruled out." Sources: Link One Link Two
