1) Canada has its first-ever minister of artificial intelligence (AI). Evan Solomon will have a massive job touching nearly every aspect of Canada's economy, government, and national security. Liberal PM Mark Carney had called for sweeping use of AI to create the "economy of the future," incentivize businesses to adopt AI, and build the requisite infrastructure. Mr. Kuiken, a commissioner on the congressionally chartered panel, said that Americans should learn from the example of China's DeepSeek making sudden gains in developing a powerful AI model earlier this year.

"I think they're doing better than we think they are and I assume that their best is behind the curtain," Mr. Kuiken said at a Center for a New American Security event. "We should assume that at all times."
