Ozzy Osbourne (76) sang his final concert with his legendary heavy-metal band, Black Sabbath, in Birmingham, England on Saturday.
One wonders what the Beatles, Yes, and the Yardbirds II (AKA Led Zeppelin) thought of Black Sabbath in 1968; all superlatives I imagine. 1970 Video: YouTube.com.
#4: Wow, lucky you. Before the internet, way back when, many of us thought that Jeff Lynne worked with the Beatles on their later albums. Don't know how that rumor started, but the Beatles obviously heavily influenced him. I loved his incorporation of string instruments, particularly the violin. Beethoven would have approved of ELO: youtu.be
#7: Oof! That was unlucky. I was fortunate to see Asia 3x, including front row seats once. But I missed out on Jay and the Americans on what turned out to be his last tour. I thought I'd catch him, but the poor guy croaked. youtu.be
Frank Sinatra called Jay 'the Voice."
#10: We're about the same age, though you might be a tad my senior. Yup, tickets were affordable. I lost track of how many times I saw the Ramones in NYC. I have a collection of ticket stubs mounted. And we also enjoyed great music on free TV: Soul Train, Don Kirshner's Rock Concerts, Dick Clark's AB, and the Tonight Show used to be 90 minutes long, so, we'd hear the performer's second set about 1247. SNL featured great musicians too. This is the stuff our parents watched on free TV: youtu.be
How terrific are these dancers?
#12: I saw these guys three times (my wife saw them once): youtu.be
My band did not cover this song, which would have been fun for a drummer as you can hear from the syncopation.

Lyrics excerpt ...
...
[Verse 1: Nick Richards]
Riding on the range
I've got my hat on
I've got my boots dusty
I've got my saddle on my horse
He's called T-T-T-T-T-Trigger
Of course
[Chorus: Nick Richards]
I wanna be a cowboy
And you can be my cowgirl
I wanna be a cowboy
And you can be my cowgirl
I wanna be a cowboy
[Verse 2: Heidi Lea & Nick Richards]
Riding on the chuck wagon
Following my man
His name is Ted
Can you believe that?
(Ted, oh, Ted! Fighting off danger)
Camping on the prairie
Plays havoc with my hair
Makes me feel quite dirty
Though we all do sometimes
(Ted gets so dirty)

#31: Don Kirshner's Rock Concerts in the 1970s was one of the free TV shows that showcased great bands.
#32: US military music bands and choirs are excellent. This is one of the few places where you must already be a musician to join and then improve and learn. Too bad your friend couldn't make it to 20 years with the US Army and earn retirement pay, but his wife and he landed on their feet anyway. Yeah, the postcard was damned cool, like out of the Shawshank Redemption.
Two historic notes:
Here is a terrific band that appeared on Don Kirshner's show in the 1970s on free TV: youtu.be
@#31 ... There used to be real life rock concerts on the TV back in the 70's ...
Yup. I'm a fan.

#37: Those were the days. Baseball games were free and every Saturday afternoon ABC aired professional boxing. I watched Greg Haugen et al fight for free. WOR-TV televised roller derby matches. We went to one a few years ago.
Last century in the rural areas I noticed farmers set up several TV antennae on high towers in all directions to pick up signals from every major city, similar to this: longrangesignal.com
Now my wife and I don't watch any TV at all. Too many books to read or write and music to listen to.
#39: Got it. Pashtunistan was not a fun place to be. I hope the Dotard's tariffs aren't hurting your friend's business as I imagine most of their supplies come from China.
On a different thread I promised Lamplighter an immortal song about the 'rat race' and here it is: youtu.be
#41: Glad to hear it. I trust you enjoyed listening to Love You To. George Harrison only had a few months to master the sitar under Ravi Shankar. Imagine this Englishman tuning all the Indian instruments before rehearsal. Genius.

Ain't that the emeth? One didn't go the beach without this: i.pinimg.com
Endnote:
'Twas a WABC-AM DJ on vacation in Paris in 1977 when he heard Dancing Queen by ABBA. He loved it and couldn't believe that the US radio stations weren't playing it, so he bought dozens of the album from a shop and distributed them to different DJs when he returned to NYC. None of the albums broke during the trans-Atlantic Odyssey. I heard this anecdote on SiriusXM Radio years ago.
