Thousands of Palestinians had been in military detention for months or years without trial or hearing. Amnesty International detailed the horrific torture the IDF inflicted on them. D/Mossad David Barnea knew exactly what the muqawama motivation was for the raid and he urged PM Benjamin Netanyahu to trade prisoners, which they did thrice in Nov 2023. But Netanyahu saw more benefit for himself and his rightwing cabinet by inflicting punishment on the Palestinians, so he stopped negotiations. As a wartime PM, conflict would delay his corruption trial while pleasing Beelzebub Smotrich and Avi Dichter: "We are now rolling out the Nakba of Gaza."
