Killing Democracy

William Kristol, Mike Murphy, Jim Swift, and Benjamin Parker: The assault is happening in plain sight, from the Epstein case to Texas reapportionment to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

"The brazen partisan redistricting underway in Texas, with Republicans attempting to entrench themselves in office and Democrats weighing a counter-offensive in blue states, was greenlit by the US Supreme Court six years ago," writes Joan Biskupic. cnn.it/4lezvnb[image or embed]

How's "gerrymandering" less than California or Illinois killing democracy?

WTF difference does your Whataboutism make?

All it does is avoid the current point by claiming hypocrisy. Unless you mean to say that it's OK because someone else did it. How many times does this need to be explained to you?

See if you can't make a comment about the points in the article.

#3 | Posted by Corky at 2025-08-04 02:18 PM

Up until now, California utilizes an independent commission to determine its congressional districts..

So.

OneTrumpSlut is wrong as usual.

His posts have never been anything more than a waste of time to read.

What a bunch of drama queens. Nobody like gerrymandering but it's been around since this country was founded.

#4 - That's for damn sure. He's rarely right about anything, and flagrantly wrong or lying the rest of the time. What's inadvertent is he points out that CA and NY are currently in the process of fighting fire with fire - a fire TX and Trump started. It's time to kick some RED ass.

#6 | Posted by YAV at 2025-08-04 02:29 PM

I see BR is here to pretend what TX is doing is just perfectly normal. Is BR a clueless little fckk, a useful MAGAIdiot, or a deceitful lying sack?

#7 | Posted by YAV at 2025-08-04 02:33 PM

from The Bulwark article:

"Once, if a president or his subordinates wanted to cover up a problem, even a crime, they made labored efforts at obfuscation and concealment. Coverups were, as the term implies, pursued under the cover of darkness.

That's why the Washington Post, with the experience of Watergate in mind, came up at the beginning of Trump's first term with the slogan "Democracy Dies in Darkness." But that slogan applies to a different era.

Now Ghislaine Maxwell, one of two organizers of a massive and horrendous child sex trafficking ring of which Donald Trump appears to have had considerable contemporaneous knowledge, meets with the deputy attorney general of the United States"who had previously been Trump's private lawyer"and the White House openly embraces it.

A week later, contrary to the normal rules for a prisoner convicted of her crimes, Maxwell is transferred to a minimum security "Club Fed" facility. This was presumably as a down payment on not spilling the beans about Trump, and perhaps as an interim step on the way to a pardon.

This coverup is happening in broad daylight."

;;

Sad that Trump and MAGA are SO evil as to make Bloody Bill Kristol et al sound like the decent people in the room.

BushJr and Trump, 12 years combined.

What have they done other than give tax cuts to the super wealthy and funnel tax dollars into the pockets of the super wealthy.

#13 | Posted by ClownShack at 2025-08-04 03:29 PM

Supreme Court is a non-partisan entity, but it's good to hear from MAGAdiots how they think about it. Clearly, MAGAdiots view the Supreme Court as partisan. ROoL oF LAw!

@#1 ... It's SO blatant and clear that even some Republicans see the dangers. ...

If Texas succeeds and the Republicans retain control of the House, then what are the odds that Pres Trump tells the House not to certify the results of the 2028 Presidential election, giving Pres Trump a possible reason to stay in power...

A map was posted online showing what would happening if all states gerrymandered their congressional districts.

It ends up with democrats having more seats than republicans.

Currently, California and New York use independent commissions to draw up congressional districts. Giving a lot of seats to Republicans.

Pretty sure Newsom is about to end that in response to the actions of Abbott.

@#17 ... Currently, California and New York use independent commissions to draw up congressional districts. ...

Also, the redistricting is usually done after a Census to take into account the changes in population shown by the Census.

Texas is redistricting halfway between two Census.

No safety or surprise, the end

#28 | Posted by chuffy at 2025-08-04 04:11 PM

I told you so.

I told you so.

I told you so.

Magat scum can go ---- themselves.

There is NOTHING comparable to anything dems have ever done.

And to add to the death of democracy theme:

Magat scum recently "rescinded" much of the spending that was agreed through negotiation to reach the budget deal in march/april
That CR was passed with a 60% vote meaning magat scum needed dem buy-in to get it passed
A couple of months go by and they rescind (with 50+1 Senate votes) the spending that the magat scum had agreed to for the CR to pass
So, this effectively makes any CR worth ---- for Dems.
There is ZERO reason to trust ANY deal that the Dems make with magat scum
Combine that with the impoundment that ----ler is implementing, they are effectively governing without any dem imput-i.e. the death of democracy
If the dems don't force a government shut down and a change in the rules, then F them

Magat scum are the vilest of the vile.

How many jobs?
How many have Americans filled?

He's created more ICE jobs than farm jobs.

You're.

Fucking.

Retarded.

Other than satisfying you xenophobia.

Deporting hardworking people who are doing the jobs Americans do not want to do is hurting America.

You stupid racist.

Tell us, when do you show up to start working the jobs these immigrants are no longer being allowed to do?

Never?

Exactly.

Neither is anyone else.

You stupid, hateful, piece of garbage.

#32 | Posted by ClownShack at 2025-08-04 04:26 PM

"Trump is opening up thousands of blue collar jobs for Americans"

What was the cost to the taxpayers, for every job "opened up?"

We were spending $20,000 per person just to deport someone do you agree with that?
"Over the last five fiscal years, it cost an estimated average of $19,599 to deport one person"
www.cbsnews.com

So, twenty grand to open up a job making $7.25 an hour, and that's assuming it's actually eligible for minimum wage and not an agricultural sub-minimum.

Have you figured out when this program pays for itself?

Have you figured out it was never intended to help American blue collar workers?

#33 | Posted by snoofy at 2025-08-04 04:28 PM

We have near full employment. Who are these people filling these new job vacancies? Will low wage workers have to take yet ANOTHER low paying job?

Magat scum will NOT answer that question. It goes to the root of the stupidity of the deportation policy.

Again, kick out 1,000,000 immigrants from Texas and who will do those jobs? There are NOT 1,000,000 unemployed people in Texas.

Fucking dumbasses

White democracy is racist crap.

#36 | Posted by fresno500 at 2025-08-04 04:37 PM

The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite.

Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government.

Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.

The cornerstone of democracy rests on the foundation of an educated electorate.

The country is headed toward a single and splendid government of an aristocracy founded on banking institutions and moneyed incorporations and if this tendency continues it will be the end of freedom and democracy, the few will be ruling...I hope we shall...crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations which dare already to challenge our government to trial and bid defiance to the laws of our country.

I sincerely believe that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies.

" We have near full employment"

Once someone drops out of the workforce for a year they are no longer counted. We have plenty of US citizens who will work jobs vacated by deported illegal aliens.

#38 | Posted by BellRinger at 2025-08-04 05:11 PM

And if we do run short we can always hand out more work visas and have people enter in an orderly and controlled manner.
