The Trumpf junta is channeling a 19th-century white supremacist movement to dominate nations in Latin America and the Caribbean. Championed by "Copperheads" and Confederate Army officers, The Knights of the Golden Circle sought to expand slavery into Mexico and Cuba before their organization finally went defunct. In 1898, the US would go to war with Spain and obtain Puerto Rico and the Philippines anyway, as well as a naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. USMC General Smedley Butler wrote "War is a Racket" after enforcing US corporate interests in the Caribbean.
Last century the "white man's burden" was the rationale for imperial expansion; the Trumpf junta is using drug trafficking as it's casus belli.
