Polls show voters now trust Dems more to handle the economy

OpEd: The issue that sank Democrats in 2024 now threatens to do the same to Republicans in 2025 and the 2026 midterms

Comments

More from the OpEd ...

... Donald Trump won the 2024 election because of inflation. The issue was the most important to voters' choices in 2024, according to a Gallup poll. ...

Partly as a result of Trump's victory, the conventional wisdom in American politics is now that Republicans have an unshakeable edge on handling the economy, and there's little the Democrats can do about that. ...

But recent data suggests these narratives are overdue a corrective. New polls from Gallup and YouGov show Democrats pulling ahead of Republicans as the party voters trust more to handle the economy. ...

See, this is where you are wrong.

Trump won because the American electorate morally bankrupt.

Further evidence of this is that the American electorate no longer holds it's politicians accountable for prices.

When are the talking heads going to get that fact into their thick skulls?

@#2 ... See, this is where you are wrong.

Trump won because the American electorate [is] morally bankrupt. ...

That's a pretty strong statement.

One that I do not completely disagree with.

OK, let me say, that the 2024 election was won because of Trump's claims upon what he would do for (to?) the economy. Claims that have since shown to be false, oh so false, and the results of which apparently detrimental.

OK, yeah, the electorate believed those political claims, as they might do for any politician. I still am not, at this point, of the opinion of "morally bankrupt."

OK, now, let's fast forward to the current ...

Yeah, there still seems to be [diminishing] approval of what Pres Trump is doing.

But that MAGA still seems to support him gives credence to your comment currently.

... Donald Trump won the 2024 election because of inflation. ...

That was then.

This is now ...

President Trump Job Approval - Inflation
www.realclearpolling.com

...
RCP Average 9/15 - 10/20
Approve: 35.5
Disapprove: 62.8
Spread: -27.3
...

The difference between "then and now" seems to be a rather strong indicator of Pres Trump's apparent inability to govern.

strong indicator of Pres Trump's apparent inability to govern.

Was governing his plan? I thought it was more just bilking money from whoever would give it to him.

Well, that and pumping his ego. That Nobel loss really stung him hard. He'll bomb his way to the next Peace Prize.

I tried to think up some manner of a counter-argument to your comment.

But I came up with nothing, except, I agree.

... pumping his ego ...

So, like me, you have watched those Cabinet meeting live streams?

you have watched those Cabinet meeting live streams?

I can't. I find them embarrassing just to watch.

@#7 ... embarrassing ...

I'd characterize them more as "shameful."

A shameful and public illustration of those who should be serving Americans apparently instead espousing their unfettered servitude towards Pres Trump.

But that's just me.

I'd characterize them more as "shameful."

That's fair.
