Ingrid Lewis-Martin accepted more than $75,000 in bribes while serving as chief adviser to New York Mayor Eric Adams, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg alleged Thursday in four separate conspiracy indictments that also named eight others, including some of the mayor's associates. Lewis-Martin, who was previously charged with accepting more than $100,000 in bribes, is now alleged to have conspired to steer city contracts for shelters to house asylum-seekers to preferred property owners in exchange for a $50,000 cash payment allegedly accepted by her son, Glenn Martin II, who is also charged.

What to Know About the Charges and Scandals Surrounding Eric Adams
www.nytimes.com
... The corruption charges announced Thursday against several associates and supporters of New York City's mayor, Eric Adams, are the latest in a multitude of scandals plaguing his administration as he mounts a long-shot bid for re-election.
Mr. Adams was not charged, but a number of his close allies were: his former chief adviser and close friend, Ingrid Lewis-Martin; her son, Glenn Martin II; Jesse Hamilton, a former state senator and friend of the mayor's who had a powerful job in City Hall; and two influential supporters, Gina and Tony Argento. Prosecutors accused them of orchestrating a bribery scheme that reached across multiple city agencies. It is the second time in less than a year that Ms. Ingrid-Martin had been charged with corruption.
A swirl of criminal cases, corruption investigations and allegations of misconduct have tarnished the mayoralty of Mr. Adams, a Democrat who took office in 2022 and is running as an independent in November. These legal troubles, including federal corruption charges against the mayor himself that were later abandoned by the Trump Justice Department, caused chaos in the city government, tanked the mayor's approval ratings and alienated many Democrats.
In the mayoral race, Mr. Adams is polling around the single digits, lagging behind Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee; former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, who is also running as an independent; and Curtis Sliwa, the Republican candidate.
Here is a guide to the legal and political quagmires involving the mayor and his associates. ...
