US Park Police have initiated at least ten car chases in the past three weeks as part of Dummkopf Trumpf's occupation plan for Washington DC. USPP officers pursued drivers for tinted windows, fake license plates, broken headlights, and running stop signs. The pursuits, all of which began as traffic stops for nonviolent crimes, would have violated DC police policy. The MPD allows car chases only when the driver is putting other lives in danger or is suspected of committing a violent crime. But these ten pursuits for non-violent crimes led to at least six crashes in Washington DC. In seven pursuits, five appear to have involved the same detective sergeant.
High-speed police chases have killed thousands of innocent bystanders over the years. Police departments across the US have adopted more conservative approaches to pursuits in recent years, with the NYPD in January banning high-speed chases for low-level offenses. Experts say police pursuits should be reserved for extreme situations because the lives of motorists and pedestrians are at risk. Geoffrey Alpert, a professor of criminology and criminal justice, has been studying high-risk police activities for more than three decades. He said the risk of the Park Police policy of now pursuing non-violent offenders outweighs the benefits. "Basically by signing that policy," Professor Alpert said, "they are signing death warrants."
