ABC pulls 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'

Disney's ABC said "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" "will be will be pre-empted indefinitely," a spokesperson confirmed to NBC News, after the late night host's Monday monologue about conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was giving a presentation at Utah Valley University when he was fatally shot last week. During his monologue Monday, Kimmel raised the possibility that the alleged assassin Tyler Robinson might have been a pro-Trump Republican. "The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it," Kimmel said.

So much for free speech ehhhhhhhh. Come on Jeff. Defend this.

The Trump administration is using the death of a hate monger to censor comedians.

Republicans don't want freedom of speech.

They want the freedom to be able to vomit up hate.

#2 | Posted by ClownShack at 2025-09-17 07:27 PM

I didn't see this headline.

I like mine better.

Kimmel canceled

#3 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-09-17 07:41 PM

I read Kimmel's comment was saying Kirk was actually killed by "one of their own" and now trying to blame it on the left.

#4 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-09-17 07:43 PM

I said nobody wants to be connected to shit like this.

ABC is terrified of tolerating that kind of thing

#5 | Posted by eberly at 2025-09-17 07:52 PM

-The Trump administration

ABC is scared of their advertisers and viewers.

IOW, you and me.

ABC is scared of you and me.

#6 | Posted by eberly at 2025-09-17 07:54 PM

I read the FCC pressured Disney and ABC.

#7 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-09-17 07:55 PM

" ABC is scared of their advertisers and viewers."

Nonsense.

The suits at Disney realize a win in public would lead to A LOT of losses on paper ... which is all that matters. Paramount's payoff was a rounding error in its merger.

Meanwhile, the current POTUS is shaking down corporate America, and Republicans are fine with that.

#8 | Posted by Danforth at 2025-09-17 07:59 PM

Further proof: Trump isn't expecting to get $15 Billion from NBC. He's expecting them to spend a lot of money, against his unlimited budget.

Is that the Republican ideal? Or are we dealing with a cult?

#9 | Posted by Danforth at 2025-09-17 08:02 PM

I'm saying advertisers and viewers are all of it.

Just part of it.

#10 | Posted by eberly at 2025-09-17 08:03 PM

Dan,

People who want comedy instead of politics are going to be happy

Facts will not be tolerated by the Trump Propaganda Police!

#14 | Posted by Corky at 2025-09-17 08:56 PM

Kimmel was either misinformed or simply lying regarding the motive of th3 shooter. His edits to make Trump seem like he didn't give a rip about Kirk's death was kind of offensive and IMO not funny, but so what? Comedians are supposed to be edgy. I didn't see anything that, from my POV, warrants a suspension of his show.

#15 | Posted by BellRinger at 2025-09-17 09:02 PM

Colbert will probably have Kimmel on his show and give him the Emmy he won the other day.

#16 | Posted by REDIAL at 2025-09-17 09:07 PM

Well, if Colbert is allowed to have a show again.

"Obama condemns horrific' Kirk shooting, but defends the right to criticize the founder of Turning Point USA

The former president suggested Republicans have deepened the nation's polarization in response to the killing.

"We can also, at the same time, say that I disagree with the idea that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a mistake," he continued.

"I can say that I disagree with the suggestion that my wife or Justice Jackson does not have adequate brain processing power. I can say that I disagree that Martin Luther King was awful."

"When I hear not just our current president, but his aides, who have a history of calling political opponents vermin, enemies who need to be targeted, that speaks to a broader problem that we have right now," Obama said.

"When we have the weight of the United States government behind extremist views, we've got a problem," he added."

Bell,

My concern is that we're sliding from comedy into a kind of speech-policing that feels uncomfortably McCarthyesque.

I'm not saying I believe this to be true, but I do wonder who's next.

#19 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-09-17 09:17 PM

...but I do wonder who's next.

Jon Stewart.

#20 | Posted by REDIAL at 2025-09-17 09:21 PM

Bell,

That being said, I'm not going to miss him.

These late night shows are tanking in the ratings and it's no wonder why.

We need another Johnny Carson.

#21 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-09-17 09:25 PM

Sam Kinnison is rolling in his grave right about now.

#22 | Posted by LauraMohr at 2025-09-17 09:29 PM

Whatever happened to Arsenio Hall?

I liked his energy.

#21 Antenna TV (on Xfinity and a TV antenna) has Johnny Carson at 11pm EST.

Wouldn't this be why Howard stern was glad he moved to satellite?

#28 | Posted by eberly at 2025-09-17 09:35 PM

Laura.

You liked Sam Kinnison?

His voice grated on my nerves.

I liked the antics of Judy Tenuta.

She was funny and had a soothing voice.

Why?

Why can't a corporation decide it would rather stay out of the political speculation rotation, and just be a comedy late night show?
It would have perhaps been fine he wasn't so serious, but it really wasn't even a joke.

I have never been around when the late night shows were supposedly great, IMO they have always been poor political humor.

My concern is that we're sliding from comedy into a kind of speech-policing that feels uncomfortably McCarthyesque.

I recall a rodeo clown in a Obama mask got fired, I guess this was the beginning of the end for comedians.

"We can also, at the same time, say that I disagree with the idea that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a mistake," he continued.

I always find these sorts of replies funny, they avoid the points that Charlie was making. I was always sold Obama a wise man, maybe its his cadence, but this really is just tiktok reponse.
Thanks for showing me that part of Obama, Corky.

I LOVED Sam Kinnison. Loved him loved him. Especially his skit on Married with Children. He rocked.

Sam Kinnison
Richard Pryor
Andrew Dice Clay
Johnny Carson

Etc etc

The FCC shouldn't be policing the accuracy of Kimmel's comments.

Laura,

This is the way comedy is meant to be.

- they avoid the points that Charlie was making.

Completely clueless Chinese... what will they think of next? Bringing back the queue?

Kirk was a nasty piece of work who denigrated every non-white male nationalist category of people he possible could for years and years. He would have likely spit on you if he saw you.

The 'out of context' meme is stupid and complete nonsense... one notices you have no comment on Kirk's description of Michelle and Justice Jackson.

You are an embarrassment to professional morons everywhere... you'll likely lose your membership card.

I didn't follow him while he was alive. Yeah, I saw clips here and there on YouTube and whatnot but didn't actively follow him. Since he was murdered I e watched and listened to him a ton. None of your characterizations even remotely resemble what I've observed. Almost polar opposite.

#37 | Posted by BellRinger at 2025-09-17 10:13 PM

Meanwhile Fox continues to condone their hosts calling for the imprisonment and murder of homeless and mentally ill people for simply existing.

One host. Kilmeade. But yeah. I hear ya.

#40 | Posted by BellRinger at 2025-09-17 10:31 PM

Jimmy is allowed to get it wrong.

Watch the entire thing - don't read what people are reporting he said, or interpreting it. It's so innocuous it's ridiculous. And the Republican FCC guy was absolutely verklempt over it. Well, it was bs acting and indignation to be honest.

What Kimmel said was nothing compared to Kilmeade.

#41 | Posted by YAV at 2025-09-17 10:45 PM

#40 - Don't lie. I saw the segment. It was all three. Jones said they should "be locked up in jail." Kilmeade said or "involuntary lethal injection...just kill them" To which Jones responded "yep" and Earhardt replied "Yeah, Brian." The other two never showed any sign of disagreement.

#42 | Posted by johnny_hotsauce at 2025-09-17 10:48 PM

He was probably losing $40 Million per show anyway. Solid financial decision.

#43 | Posted by REDIAL at 2025-09-17 10:49 PM

"#40 - Don't lie. I saw the segment. It was all three."

I only saw the Kilmeade piece. But yes, sound advice and echoed by Yav. Watch/listen firsthand and draw your own conclusions.

Thank you for that.

#44 | Posted by BellRinger at 2025-09-17 10:52 PM

One host. Kilmeade

Kilmeade piled on with the "involuntary lethal injection" after Jones said lock them up in prison if they don't comply. Earhardt wasn't phased and asked, "Yeah, Brian, why did it have to get to this point?"

Kilmeade's apology was pathetic and inadequate. What a POS.

#45 | Posted by YAV at 2025-09-17 10:53 PM

"Kilmeade's apology was pathetic and inadequate."

I said approximately the same thing on that thread.
