CT-based submarine manufacturer plans to hire 8,000

Submarine manufacturer General Dynamics Electric Boat is reportedly preparing to hire 8,000 employees this year, a recruitment goal that is significantly higher than hiring levels in recent years.

... The plan was first reported by The Day, which cited a memo sent to employees last week by Mark Rayha, president of the Groton-headquartered Electric Boat.

The article indicated that Rayha had not provided details about how the plan would be enacted, but it said that he had disclosed that "3,500 of the new jobs would be at Quonset Point, 2,500 would involve tradespeople in Groton, another 1,000 would be divided between engineering and design, and the final 1,000 split throughout other aspects of the company."

Quonset Point, in Rhode Island, is Electric Boat's second-largest location, after its shipyard and main offices in Groton.

In comparison, Electric Boat aimed to hire about 3,000 people last year, while it made about 4,100 hires in 2024. ...
