NYPD: Violent Crime Decreasing in NYC

Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch announced that the NYPD delivered the safest January ever for gun violence, with the fewest shooting incidents and shooting victims in recorded history. Manhattan and Staten Island went the entire month of January without a single murder.

Jessica Tisch Doing Great for New Yorkers

Comments

"In January 2026, NYC saw 40 shooting incidents and 47 shooting victims, compared to the previous all-time lows of 50 and 56, set in 2025 and 2019, respectively. Murders declined to their lowest level for January, shattering the previous record of 22 set in 2018 and 2022. Manhattan and Staten Island went the entire month without a single murder."

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani was wise to ask Jessica Tisch to stay on as NYPD Commissioner and in turn she was clever enough to stay on with a winner. Commissioner Tisch will have future opportunities as a US Senator, NYS Governor, or Cabinet secretary.

Mayor Mamdani pledged that should either the nefarious Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu or the sinister Russia President Vladimir Putin, both ICC-indicted war criminals, ever step foot in NYC jurisdiction, he would order Commissioner Tisch to have them arrested in accordance with the INTERPOL Red Notice published for these two wanted notorious fugitives.

The NYPD ESU is a capable and experienced organization trained to deal with terrorists. The NYPD ESU would use the INTERPOL Red Notice to obtain an arrest warrant from a judge to effect the arrests. Similarly, Canada PM Mark Carney pledged he would have Netanyahu and Putin arrested in compliance with international law.

Since neither Israel nor the US are parties to the 1998 Rome Statute and the International Criminal Court (ICC), NYC would invoke the legal application of "universal jurisdiction" against Benjamin Netanyahu for crimes against humanity. This is how the Mossad was able to abduct Adolph Eichmann from Argentina in 1960 and Israel was then able to try, convict, and execute the former German citizen in Israel, a country that did not exist when the crimes against Germany's Jews were perpetrated.

As a born-and-bred Staten Islander, I can guarantee that's as much a credit to apparent peace among the Mafia families as it is any NYC policies, even though car detonations, arson, and relocation to the swamps always seemed to be more popular than straight-out assassinations.

I could be an optimist and say that violent racism is down on Staten Island, but I doubt it.
