Sadly, the "Black Eagle" passed away in 2024.

Black athletes in the US have been ruthlessly exploited for centuries.

If you never read Mandingo by Kyle Onstott, watch the 1970s film.

In addition to baseball, one of the first socio-economic collisions between black and white athletes was the world of boxing.

Men of Color had their own boxing association and champions, like the Negro Leagues.

They made far less money than their white counterparts and were less heralded.

The Amsterdam News in Harlem would write about them.

Draft-dodging Jack Dempsey avoided fighting those talented, skilled pugilists of color, afraid of losing to them.
