Clark and his colleagues did not notice this at the time. All they knew was that they were taking part in an unusual experiment, which involved tracking their own voices over time.

In my experience, most insular intelligent groups will find themselves speaking in self creative accents, as well as creating new words and phrases specific to their commonality of endevour.

I saw this over and over again as a Communications Specialist, beginning in their early training, and continuing as they became wizened Journeyman vets.

This is so cool.

I do note that right out of college I worked in the great state of Kentucky for a year.

After that, when I came back East, my friends chided my about the accent I had developed since I last saw them.

Speech accents are a curious thing for me.

And, don't ask about the four years I spent in Brooklyn for high school and what that did to my accent. ....

I am not surprised that the inhabitants of this microcosm developed their own accent.
