... Voters in Pennsylvania this week appear to have elected a longtime and recent resident of Fairfield County to serve as their next U.S. senator in Washington.
David McCormick, a Republican who formerly led the Westport-based hedge fund Bridgewater Associates, defeated Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey in one of the nation's closest Senate battles, according to a race call from the Associated Press. Casey has yet to concede the election, citing the number of uncounted votes.
In both this election as well as a shorter, unsuccessful primary run in 2022, McCormick faced allegations of carpetbagging from his opponents, who pointed to his ties to Connecticut's Gold Coast.
Prior to a divorce from his first wife in 2015, McCormick owned a house in Westport, according to local property records. That same year, he purchased a $6 million home in Fairfield that he sold in 2021, when he purchased a home in Pittsburgh. ...
