The Secret Police Descending on Small Town, U.S.A.

As unrest and military troops overtake Los Angeles, terrifying scenes are also unfolding in smaller communities around the country. They, too, are being invaded by what resembles a secret police force, often indistinguishable from random thugs.

Paywalled.

Dear America:

You are waking up,

as Germany once did,

To the awareness that

1/3 of your people

would kill another 1/3,

while 1/3 watches.

-Werner Herzog

You know who you are. We all do.

#1,

If you can't figure out how to get around a paywall in 2025 why are you even on the internet?

#3 | Posted by qcp at 2025-06-13 12:59 PM

Probably because I don't care enough at this point?

Or you could just say how to do it instead of being an a&&.

Why not both?

No paywall

... often indistinguishable from random thugs ...

You mean, masked and not identifying themselves?

@#1 ... Paywalled. ...

I just accessed the cited OpEd.

It was not pay-walled for me.

More from the cited OpEd ...

... Maybe they really were immigration officers, just as they claimed. Or maybe they were a ragtag vigilante group, arbitrarily snatching brown-looking people off the street.

"It could have been like a band of the Proud Boys or something," said Linda Shafiroff, recounting the agents who showed up outside her office in masks and tactical gear and refused to show IDs, warrants or even the names of any criminals they were supposedly hunting. ...

@#7 ... "It could have been like a band of the Proud Boys or something," said Linda Shafiroff, recounting the agents who showed up outside her office in masks and tactical gear and refused to show IDs ...

That is a critical observation.

How would anyone know the difference between, say, ICE agents and possible militia gangsters who were recently pardoned by Pres Trump?

How would anyone know the difference between, say, ICE agents and possible militia gangsters who were recently pardoned by Pres Trump?

POTUS will put bounties on brown people and the difference won't matter.

@#9 ... the difference won't matter. ...

So...

Pres Trump seems to want to diminish (eliminate) the difference between a valid and credentialed ICE agent arresting a person vs. some random masked person with no credentials arresting you.

Add that to Pres Trump's prior arresting of random people and sending them to a foreign prison without the Due Process guaranteed by the Constitution.

Where are we as a Country now?

#10 Screwed. That's where we are As a country now.

Rule of Law means Nothing. If thugs who refuse to identify themselves get killed trying to arrest people without warrants, who's to blame?

The people defending themselves from, being attacked,or the attackers?

The dangerous part is that after that happens, they'll identify themselves.

And the rational person acting as any rational person would will either be dead or will spend the rest of their lives in a federal prison, if not executed.

But that is likely the point. The moment a single Gestapo officer dies, the hammer drops harder than we'd like to imagine.
