Politics Trump says 'maybe' he'll try to Fire Fed Chief Jerome Powell

The president has been lashing out against Powell for months, criticizing the central banker -- whom Mr. Trump appointed in his first term -- for not lowering interest rates at a faster pace.

President Trump escalated his long-running public attack on the Federal Reserve, creating a lose-lose situation for the central bank as it navigates the risks of higher prices and weaker growth from tariffs.

Actually--maybe not. I'm certain that many Trump advisors and bankers have told him already to back off comments regarding Jay Powell, who many agree has done a great job in avoiding a recession in the past five years. The real challenge will come in nine months, when Der Dotard nominates some shill and stooge to take over as Fed chair. The Senate Banking committee had better do its job, grow spines (I'm looking at you, GOPers) and reject not only the first dork to come forth, they probably also will have to reject candidate #2, who is probably Trump's real pick. Shoot the stalking horse, and don't be faked out by that nomination and think 'Oh well, we got rid of Hitler, let's go with Stalin'...

BTW: the yield on the 10-yr UST is down 22bp from January 2, 2025. No rate cut from the Fed was needed to accomplished this. Der Dotard wants the Fed to lead the market, and Fed chairs since Greenspan have known that they need to lag the market, and let it do the heavy lifting. The last thing the Fed wants to do is surprise the market, and all but one guy (hint: a badly-tailored, fat orange criminal insurrectionist and golf cheat) in the business world knows this...
