Kentucky man wakes during organ harvesting procedure.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is investigating organ donation practices after a Kentucky organization allegedly began harvesting organs from people who may not have been dead. A House subcommittee held a hearing Tuesday on organ donation safety lapses, some concerning Kentucky-based nonprofit Network for Hope, which merged with Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA).

Lots of money to be made in organ donation, and the docs who sign off on the deaths are often in the industry and the ones doing transplants in other cases. Clear conflict of one hand washing the other.

Which is why I've cancelled my organ donation card. Now it'll be left to those I know and love to honor my wishes and donate my organs when I'm done with them. As opposed to people who stand to make millions from taking them while I'm still using them.

This is slanderous malarkey.
I've done organ harvests and transplant surgeries(OR RN) and this just is not true.

#5 In his, uh, defense, IDF recently acknowledged harvesting organs from dead Palestinians in the Second Intifada. But that was things like corneas. It was noticed because IDF sent the bodies back to the relatives in Palestine with organs missung.

"Dead" can be a difficilt lige to draw when we're talking about organs that need to be alive. I don't find it unreasonable to assume it's happened on occasion.
