Why 54% of CT Oppose State Buying the WNBA Connecticut Sun

The Connecticut Sun are facing roadblock after roadblock this year. After a rough season, the organization is now facing a potential relocation, one that state officials are opposing and even going as far as writing proposals to purchase the team themselves. Although this seems like a solution, some residents of Connecticut think otherwise.

Even though most fans are against the state purchasing the team, that doesn't mean they want to see the team leave altogether. The Sun is the only professional sports team in the state, making its games a large contributor to the local economy. ...

@#1 ... making its games a large contributor to the local economy. ...

... and if the money spent trying to keep the team in-state were spent to build other local businesses?

How is spending State money going to build other local businesses? State money will go to NGO's and subsidies that eventually run out.

The only way to build local business is for the State to spend on infrastructure (roads, trains & parking) & entertainment venues. A WNBA team coming to town is like GreenBay, it would be good for the people (pride) and the local businesses. The goal is to build a core downtown, where the WNBA brings in bonus patrons.

I agree.

But after that state money has run out, perhaps the local businesses have become a thriving business.

My question is - why give that seed money to a major, already established, corporation? Why not try to encourage local businesses?
