US Signals Broader Efforts to Protect Nigeria's Christians

President Donald Trump's administration is promoting efforts to work with Nigeria's government to counter violence against Christians, signaling a broader strategy since he ordered preparations for possible military action and warned that the United States could go in "guns-a-blazing" to wipe out Islamic militants.

... A State Department official said this past week that plans involve much more than just the potential use of military force, describing an expansive approach that includes diplomatic tools, such as potential sanctions, but also assistance programs and intelligence sharing with the Nigerian government.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also met with Nigeria's national security adviser to discuss ways to stop the violence, posting photos on social media of the two of them shaking hands and smiling. It contrasted with Trump's threats this month to stop all assistance to Nigeria if its government "continues to allow the killing of Christians."

@#1

Now, Pres Trump seems to be moving us towards a war with Nigeria?

You could argue that he has no idea what he is doing at all.

@#3 ... You could argue that he has no idea what he is doing at all. ...

Yeah, that point could be argued.

Another point that could be argued is that his deflection attempts away from the Epstein files have a much larger, and costlier, ramification than he presents.

Stated differently, what is the cost of stationing the USS Ford (our largest aircraft carrier) off the coast of Venezuela?

And, what is the benefit hoped to be attained?

Compare those two, and let me know your opinion ...

I'd say the cost of stationing USS Ford off Venezuela is no more than it being stationed anywhere else. The cost of dragging it and it's group 7,000 miles across the Atlantic would be an added operational cost.

The benefit? I see none. It's just saber-rattling optics. It's not like there are no land bases in the area to operate from. And losing that asset from the Med is a thing.

I do not disagree.

But that observation then leads me to wonder ...

What's next?
