Trump Wants a War on Cartels. Mexico's Pres Offers Alternate

Mexico's leader suggested Washington should focus on other steps: Containing the voracious American appetite for illicit drugs, and combating illegal arms trafficking.

Trump on Mexico: "I like the president very much. She's a very good person. She's got a beautiful voice. Beautiful woman. I said, 'Let me eradicate the cartels.' 'No no no, please, president.' We have to eradicate them. We have to knock the hell out of them. The cartels are running Mexico."

... "If the flow of illegal weapons from the United States into Mexico were stopped, these groups wouldn't have access to this type of high-powered weaponry to carry out their criminal activities," President Claudia Sheinabum said at her daily news conference, citing a statistic from the U.S. Department of Justice that 75% of guns used by criminal groups in Mexico were smuggled from the United States.

Sheinbaum -- whose stated strategy has been to keep a "cool head" in the face of Trump's repeated verbal broadsides -- was responding to a question about Trump's latest threats to deploy military assets against cartels in her country. Trump made the threat while speaking at a meeting of the newly inaugurated "Americas Counter Cartel Coalition."

The confab featured some of Trump's favored right-wing leaders, such as President Javier Milei of Argentina and President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador.

Not invited were the left-wing presidents of Latin America's three most populous nations, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico. ...

So, what might Pres Trump do about that?

Or is he only concerned about the illegal activities coming into the Country? But seems to be quite OK with the US exporting weapons of illegal activities?

The Mexican president is right; Loud mouth gun hugging hicks in the lax gun law red states have been vending millions of firearms to drug cartels from Mexico, Colombia and other Latin countries for decades and almost all of the violence in Latin America is related and enabled by these sales. To hear white wingers bitch and whine about all the influx of migrants from those terror narco states, which they helped bring about with their inability to control that illegal trade makes me sick to my stomach. Their denial of these stupid hicks to use any critical thought process on this issue so over the top disgusting. I've seen the violence that all these weapons bring to our cities first hand on a daily basis since 2015 in my life living in Latin American.
