NYC protesters call for regime change in Iran

The conflict with Iran rages on for the United States, and now people across the country are beginning to sound off about wanting regime change in the Islamic Republic. On Sunday, rallies were held in New York City by advocacy groups calling for freedom for the Iranian people and the release of political prisoners. Organizers say the gatherings were intended not only to support Iranians fighting for basic rights and liberties, but also to show backing for the American and Israeli military actions against Iran that began more than two weeks ago.

... "Nobody in our movement wants war," Robert Riggs told NewsNation. "Nobody ever wanted war. No one wants to see a bomb dropped."

"No one wants to see someone injured or killed in a war " that's absolutely a fact," he continued. "But in this case, there are people in Iran who are saying, Look, my house was just damaged by a bomb, but thank God they got rid of that general who was out there on the streets killing my child a few months ago.'"

The rallies coincide with recent remarks by former Vice President Mike Pence, who said the purpose of the continued conflict is "finishing" a decades-long war with Iran's leadership.

"One administration after another has slashed at the tentacles of Iran that have brought violence to American forces, to American citizens, to our allies in the region -- most especially Israel,"

Pence told NewsNation's "The Hill Sunday." "This isn't about starting a war. It's about finishing a war that's nearly 50 years in the making."

Pence said Iran initiated a conflict with the U.S. 47 years ago when Iranian students stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, detaining more than 50 Americans and holding them hostage for 444 days. ...

Regime change would be nice. If only if there were some way to achieve it without unleashing catastrophe on the entire world...

@#3 ... Regime change would be nice. ...

I cannot disagree.

The current regime in Iran is evil. OK, beyond evil.

But, Pres Trump seems to have miscalculated (I'm being kind) the difficulty in attaining regime change in Iran.

So now, Pres Trump seems to be desperately looking for an off-ramp to save face. Even to the point that he has been talking about negotiations with the Iranians that the Iranians assert do not exist.

Pres Trump said we obliterated Iranian nuclear capabilites in June 2025, and called it "fake news" for reporting that said otherwise.

Yet a goal of the current war with Iran was to destroy Iran's nuclear capability that Pres Trump said was obliterated in June 2025.
