"Baby It's You" is a song written by Burt Bacharach (music), Luther Dixon (credited as Barney Williams), and Mack David (lyrics).

It was recorded by the Shirelles and the Beatles, and was a hit for both.

The highest-charting version of "Baby It's You" was by the band Smith, who took the song to number five on the US charts in 1969.

Smith was an American rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1969. They had a blues-based sound and scored a Top 5 hit in the United States in 1969 with a cover of the Burt Bacharach song "Baby It's You", featuring Gayle McCormick on lead vocals.

This disc sold over one million copies between July and October 1969, out-charted popular versions by the Beatles and the Shirelles, and received a gold record awarded by the R.I.A.A.

Smith's version appeared on their debut album, A Group Called Smith. The single was released on Dunhill Records (4206) in 1969.

It was their first and most successful release. This version alters the traditional vocal arrangement as performed by the Shirelles and the Beatles in favor of a more belted, soulful vocal. The single hit number five on the Billboard Hot 100. The Smith version was used in Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof.

The band I saw most, 3 times in the 70s, was Jethro Tull.

My first concert was when I had just gotten my drivers license at 16, and some girl talked me into taking her to see Herman's Hermits at Market Hall in Dallas.

Well, the opening act was... The Who. They did My Generation, Happy Jack, Substitute, some others, and then proceeded to smash guitars and tear up the stage.

In Texas, ffs! No one had seen anything like it. I barely remember the Hermits, but that concert changed my musical life.

Yeah, some friends of friends in TX were drummer and guitarist for the early version of ZZ Top who got drafted and lost their spots.

The Brits did seem more expressive earlier, less conservative perhaps. Not long after that The Who concert, I was in my first black light poster room smoking my first joint, and listening to the Doors' Paint it Black.

So it goes.
