VFW Honors LGBTQ+ Veterans' Service to Nation

June is Pride Month, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) stands with our fellow Americans in honoring the invaluable contributions and sacrifices of all who have served our nation, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) veterans.

Comments

"Since the first Pride Month proclamation in 1999 by President Bill Clinton, the VFW has honored the estimated more than one million veterans that identify as LGBTQ+ for their service, and for proudly standing among the less than 1% of us who serve or have served our great nation."

This book has a fascinating chapter on how mobilizing for the Second World War impacted the LGBTQ+ community nationwide: images.pangobooks.com

... "This June, the VFW salutes all LGBTQ+ veterans for their honorable service and recognize that their dedication and courage are part of the foundation of our national defense." ...

I agree 100%.

All Veterans who honorably serve the Country should be honored for their Service.

@#3

It should not matter how those Veterans "look."

The criteria should be simple, did they serve the Country?

It's time to take a break from posting here.

The insults just take the fun out of it.

My last post will be here.

My friend, Leonard Matlovich, would be so proud if he could see what he began.

In 1975, I knew him personally. While on active duty, he outed himself to his commanding officer and became the first active-duty gay serviceman to challenge the military's policy. He won, helping show that gay people could serve their country proudly.

Coincidentally, we were both processed for discharge that same year.

I experienced the humiliation of the MAAs coming to my barracks and making a big production out of taking all my military gear and uniforms. Someone tipped me off to hide my duffel bag so I would have a way to carry my clothes home. I still have it.

I'll take my leave now.

I've said all I wish to share here.
