If there was any doubt that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg was a corrupt law enforcement official who abuses his office to prosecute his political enemies and protect his allies, it was eliminated Thursday when his office dismissed trespassing charges against 30 anti-Israel protesters who had been arrested after occupying a building on the campus of Columbia University. On the morning of April 30, the protesters, who had already been camping illegally on campus for two weeks, smashed a window on the first floor of the university's Hamilton Hall, unlocked the door, illegally entered the building, covered the security cameras, and then used wooden tables, chairs, zip ties, and metal chains to barricade themselves inside. Several custodial staffers were trapped inside, too, but they were eventually released. read more
FORMER GOV. ANDREW CUOMO (D-NY): That case, the Attorney General's case in New York, frankly should have never been brought. And if his name was not Donald Trump, and if he wasn't running for president from the former AG in New York, I'm telling you that case would have never been brought. And that's what is offensive to people. And it should be. Because if there's anything left, it's belief in the justice system.
Democrats keep doing surprisingly well in special elections. The party's most vulnerable Senate incumbents are running ahead of their rivals in key battleground states. One of Democrats' signature issues " reproductive rights " has repeatedly proved a winning message. And yet Joe Biden is struggling to pull even with Donald Trump. It's another ominous sign for the president: Even as other Democrats are running strong, the party's down-ballot successes aren't translating into momentum at the top of the ticket. Biden trails Trump in many of the states he needs to win to keep the White House. His job approval is underwater. And the coalition of voters that ushered him into office four years ago is fraying.
