Federal agents and local police responded to an active shooter situation at the ICE facility in Dallas early Wednesday, where multiple victims were reported and a suspect was seen on the roof. At least three people were critically injured, and CPR was underway on one victim as emergency crews rushed to the scene. One suspect was found dead on a nearby rooftop with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to WFAA, a local news outlet.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed five bills Saturday attempting to thwart President Donald Trump's mass deportation agenda, including a ban on local and federal officers wearing masks to conceal their identities. The bills mark the latest chapter in what's become a tense fight over immigration enforcement in California, a state home to more than 10 million immigrants as well as industries and communities that depend on them. "Immigrants have rights, and we have the right to stand up and push back," Newsom said Saturday afternoon at a Los Angeles signing ceremony in which he condemned secrecy by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. The Federal Trade Commission is suing Ticketmaster and its parent company, Live Nation, over allegations of illegal and deceptive business practices that it says has resulted in consumers paying "significantly more" than the face value of a ticket. In a lawsuit filed in California District Court on Thursday, the FTC accuses the companies of multiple forms of illicit behavior. But, she wrote, she decided that it would be too risky to have a gay man alongside her as a Black woman on the ballot, given how voters might react, according to the excerpts in The Atlantic. "We were already asking a lot of America: to accept a woman, a Black woman, a Black woman married to a Jewish man. Part of me wanted to say, Screw it, let's just do it. But knowing what was at stake, it was too big of a risk. And I think Pete also knew that -- to our mutual sadness," Harris wrote in her memoir, "107 Days," according to The Atlantic.
