Authorities in Los Angeles on Tuesday touted the results of a statewide crackdown on human trafficking, announcing the arrests of more than 600 suspects and saying more than 170 victims were rescued as part of the operation. The weeklong campaign was part of an annual effort spearheaded by the Los Angeles Regional Human Trafficking Task Force, and 80 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies looking to curb a crime that officials said targets the most vulnerable. An 18-year-old Burger King worker intended to commit a terrorist attack with knives and hammers at a grocery store or fast-food restaurant in a Charlotte, N.C., suburb on New Year's Eve, the FBI said on Friday. Prosecutors charged the suspect, Christian Sturdivant of Mint Hill, N.C., with attempting to provide material support to Islamic State, according to court documents. "The FBI and partners foiled another potential New Year's Eve attack from an individual allegedly inspired by ISIS," FBI Director Kash Patel said. Sturdivant had been planning the attack for a year, according to authorities. read more
