Like many Democrats, I think the Old Guard is out of touch, I think we wanted Obama because he wasn't Hillary (Old Guard), I think we wanted Mamdani because he wasn't Cuomo (Old Guard).

Obama was an outsider too.
It was supposed to be Hillary that won the nomination in 2008.
The DNC was able to paper over all that, but the DNC only jumped on the Obama bandwagon after the Democrat primaries forced them to.

Obama was widely criticized by mainstream Democrats for those comments.
