Progressive Democrats warn Kamala Harris risks losing the support of a small but significant portion of her political base unless she changes her campaign's closing message " and its messengers " immediately. Specifically, several progressive leaders believe that the Democratic nominee has been too focused on winning over moderate Republicans in recent days at the expense of her own party's passionate liberals. And they say that Harris' closing message, which is increasingly centered on Republican Donald Trump and the threat he poses to U.S. democracy, ignores the economic struggles of the nation's working class. Some far-left leaders are also irked that Harris has shared the stage in recent days with former House Republican leader Liz Cheney and billionaire businessman Mark Cuban while progressive icons like Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have been relegated to low-profile roles.
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said during an appearance on "The View" Friday that Vice President Kamala Harris has had a poor showing over the last week, casting doubt on her campaign. Christie, a Republican, has voiced support for Harris since she took over as the Democratic Party's presidential nominee. However, he suggested his confidence in her campaign has been shaken recently. "There's advantages and disadvantages to coming into the race this late," he added. "The advantage is she didn't have to go through all the primaries and go through all of that that goes on that wears you down a bit. But the disadvantage is people don't know her." The job of the vice president, he said, is to support the president. Vice presidents otherwise keep a low profile, Christie noted, which has harmed Harris's recognition among Democratic voters. read more
Israel struck back at Iran early Saturday, delivering a much-threatened response for this month's 180-missile attack by Tehran and further expanding the hostilities that have spiraled out of the war in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had vowed a forceful response to Iran's ballistic-missile attack on the country. The missiles launched by Iran in early October caused minor damage, according to Israeli officials, but in some places penetrated Israel's air defenses. The Biden administration had said Israel has the right to strike back but urged it to refrain from attacking Iran's nuclear and oil facilities, an escalation that could spark a regional war and raise oil prices. Iran said its missile attack was retaliation for the deaths of the leaders of its allied militias Hezbollah and Hamas and a top Iranian general.
