Greg Gumbel, a long-time NFL sportscaster for CBS, has passed away at the age of 78. As was announced by the network on behalf of his family on Friday, Gumbel died after a battle with cancer. It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved husband and father, Greg Gumbel. He passed away peacefully surrounded by much love after a courageous battle with cancer. Greg approached his illness like one would expect he would, with stoicism, grace and positivity. He leaves behind a legacy of love, inspiration and dedication to over 50 extraordinary years in the sports broadcast industry; and his iconic voice will never be forgotten. Greg's memory will forever be treasured by his family, dearest friends, colleagues and all who loved him. New England Patriots fans will remember Gumbel from numerous calls throughout the years, including the team's victory over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII.

A couple was left shaken after two masked men broke into their home the day after Christmas, leading the husband to shoot and kill one of them, according to Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells. It happened around 9 p.m. Thursday at a home off of Hickory Hammock Circle in the River Club area in Bradenton. The couple had been enjoying their night at home when the husband got an alert from home security cameras about motion detected on the side of the house. As he checked the cameras, Wells said the homeowner saw two masked men outside trying to break in. He reportedly told his wife to get to a safe place and grabbed his gun before going to a spare bedroom/office where he was "immediately" confronted by one of the masked invaders. read more

Disney has decided to remove a transgender storyline from its new Pixar show "Win or Lose." The upcoming series, set to be released on Feb. 19, follows a group of kids on a softball team as they prepare for their championship game. Each episode centers around a different character, showcasing their personalities, helicopter parents and more. Ahead of the show's debut, a Disney spokesperson confirmed the removal of the transgender storyline. "When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline," the spokesperson said on Dec. 17.
