The fight over taxpayer subsidies for non-citizen migrant health care in Illinois continues as a new audit shows Illinois taxpayers' costs ballooned beyond estimates and total $1.6 billion over three years. An Illinois Auditor General report on Health Benefits for Immigrant Seniors and Adults showed overall costs from 2021 to 2023 were up to 286% higher than estimated, totalling more than $897 million. There were also eligibility errors with poor internal controls. On the House floor, state Rep. Amy Elik, R-Alton, said the audit shows Republican concerns were valid. "It is not enough for us to say I told you so,' we must do better," Elik said. "Now is the time and this is our opportunity to work for taxpayers, not promote fraud and overspending."
krainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has met with King Charles following an emergency summit with European leaders in London, where he was urged to repair his relationship with President Trump. The Ukrainian leader, wearing all black, was pictured shaking hands with a beaming king outside of his Sandringham country estate after traveling from the British capital by helicopter. Zelensky was "warmly received" by the king, although the exact details of what the pair discussed were not revealed, as per royal policy on such meetings, a Buckingham Palace official said. The meeting came just 48 hours after his disastrous White House meeting with Trump and Vice President JD Vance, in which he was scolded by the American leaders for not being grateful enough for the support for Ukraine and for not agreeing to Trump's terms to begin peace negotiations with Russia.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., on Sunday said that Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy might need to resign following the heated Oval Office meeting with President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance. Johnson said Zelenskyy "needs to come to his senses and come back to the table in gratitude or someone else needs to lead the country to do that" so a peace deal can be reached with Russia and the U.S.
