"Was it a swastika, or SS?"
Go look at the pictures and you tell us what it is.
Neither, apparently.
A quick search tells me it was a Totenkopf(deathshead)www.militarytrader.com a symbol commonly associated with particular SS units. It does look bad ass and, if you're as ignorant of WW2 History particulars as most Americans, that's all the associations a young ex-Marine is likely to put with it. He was drunk, with his buddies and it looked cool. Absolutely nothing he has said since raises any red flags that he holds beliefs consistent with a fascist/totalitarian mindset. In fact, everything I've heard and read from him tilts the opposite direction.
Frankly, I suspect his eloquent stands at the Bernie Sanders end of the political spectrum are what have set off all the "scandal" talk. Wall St and their stooges really hate folks like him.
-The DNC tried to take him down.
How so?

"The Party" isn't backing Platner.
Platner has loudly recommended booting Chuck Schumer from Leadership and Schumer controls Dem Senatorial campaign money. They both want Collins gone, but that's the extent of their planned cooperation. The Party's big bucks are coming from Wall St types and Platner would happily tax most of them out of their sixth homes.
