But it's the public perception of something like this that's undermining any sort of rationalization. If she was indeed working through the legal channels, why not let that proceed without having to arrest and detain her? Irrespective of whether this will speed up the process, the optics are terrible, the wife of an American hero who has already been deployed overseas multiple times and who's currently preparing for another deployment, perhaps to the Middle East.
And what about the story about ICE agents checking 'the papers' of people attending the graduations of Marines from basic training? How does anyone think that this isn't going to look bad? Particularly when Trump is taking the country to war where these same soldiers and Marines are being sent to a part of the world where they may be asked to lay down their lives for what, Trump's ego over trying to pull a 'Venezuela moment' in Iran?
I wonder how many of those "hundreds of troops" who participated in rescuing the American airmen have family members who have already been detained or who are under treat of being arrested?
This is almost as bad as during WWII when Black troops from the South were dying in Europe and the Pacific defending a country where if they were back home they'd have to ride in the back of the bus and get water from fountains marked 'for coloreds only'.
