With regard to the fossil fuel industry, except for mainly environmental regulations, the government isn't in the way. And those regulations are there because that industry has a proven track record of crapping all over the environment.
But I think you're advocating for something different...
How is government "getting out of the way" going to compel the industry to keep their product in America, as so many conservatives think they should? The fossil fuel industry is ALWAYS going to sell it's products to whomever will pay the most. Anywhere in the world.
Global trade is a good thing IMO.
