Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) blamed Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) for the recent attempts to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), claiming he "unleashed the demons." Back in October, Gaetz spearheaded the process to vacate Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the speakership for his efforts to pass legislation to avoid a government shutdown. The result led to weeks of uncertainty as Republicans struggled to elect a new speaker. On Friday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) filed a motion to vacate Johnson because of the passage of the $1.2 trillion spending bill. During an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Friday night, Gingrich slammed Gaetz for creating the "disaster" by ousting McCarthy and also bashing the Freedom Caucus for opposing the GOP majority.
