These things are all scams anyway. My sister had this done last year and the percentages were way off, based on our family history. Lo and behold, she a received an "update" last week with very different results.

Also, most people aren't aware they only inherit a small fraction of the DNA of their ancestors, the further back they go.

23andme seems to be based, like many social media sites, upon others providing my personal information.

For example, I was once told that a family member provided my very personal details to the site about the entire family.

Just so they could see a family tree on the site.

Now, 23andme.com seems to have my personal data, even though I have never visited the site or agreed to their privacy policy.

That sort of personal data collection seems to be rampant across social media.

But why is it we - who are affected - only hear about these hacks months after they find out about it?

Could you expand on the final part of your post? I don't understand, I thought all my DNA came from an c esters. If it didn't,then where did it come from?

I thought all my DNA came from an c esters.

My sister is deeply into this and it gets pretty complicated.
