Justice Department Has Grim Warning for Convicted Jan. 6 Rioters

The U.S. Justice Department sent a message Wednesday to those hoping for a pardon over their participation in the deadly riot on January 6, 2021: They will have to admit their guilt to receive one.

NEW: DOJ warned Wednesday that a Jan. 6 defendant who accepts a pardon from Donald Trump is making a "confession of guilt." "[A] pardon at some unspecified date in the future ... would not unring the bell of conviction." www.politico.com/news/2024/12 ...

"The defendant hopes to avoid that harm by receiving a presidential pardon from a future executive. But the defendant's personal motivation to avoid public disclosure of her judgment of conviction is no reason to delay entry of judgment and deviate from the regular order of criminal procedure," the motion stated.

"And, even if the defendant were to receive a pardon at some unspecified date in the future"which is purely speculative at this juncture"that pardon would not unring the bell of conviction," the prosecutors wrote.

"In fact, quite the opposite. The defendant would first have to accept the pardon, which necessitates a confession of guilt."

Prosecutors wrote that a pardon would not undo the fact of the crime, only prevent punishment for that crime. If anything, a pardon would be to admit to the crime."

Criminals should have criminal records.

What crimes did they commit? What judge or jury found them guilty?

If they're being pardoned its to protect them from Trumps wrath because they said things that hurt his fragile feelings.

Unless you can tell me what Liz Cheney did that broke the law you have to admit to the above.

An FBI investigation with no resource or time limits should be able to find a crime with which to charge Liz Cheney. If nothing else, the process will be the punishment.

Obama and Joe put a lot of effort into weaponizing the government it would be a shame to waste that.

It would definitely be a shame to throw all of that work away.

They, as violent fascists, will wear the mark of guilt with honor. They helped bring down American democracy...not everyone can say that. They can say they murdered the rule of law, well, they and their fascist chief, Trump.

House Oversight Committee asks FBI to investigate Liz Cheney for possible "witness tampering."
