Town That Voted Trump Desperately Needs Law he has Vowed to Overturn

Hostility toward the outgoing Democratic president is no surprise in Sulphur, Louisiana, a red town in a red state in a country that has handed the White House and Congress to Republicans. Yet the message felt like a poke in the eye at a time when Robertson was seeking funding through Biden's signature climate law so her nonprofit organization could repair and retrofit hurricane-battered houses in the area -- including her neighbor's. Not even a fraying tarp, a tar patch or the piece of corrugated metal tacked on the roof could keep the rain from pouring inside. Donald Trump has vowed to overturn the law that would provide the funding, the Inflation Reduction Act, which he has referred to as the "new green scam."

More

Trump has said he'll overturn a law that helps communities better weather the effects of climate change. If he does, he'll be reversing an initiative that has disproportionately benefited districts and states that voted for him. New, from @fastlerner.bsky.social @propublica.org

No sympathy. These people are getting the world they voted for.

Let's return to these people in a year and see if they are able to afford hamburger.

Dictionary Definitions from Oxford Languages:

Schadenfreude

/SHd'nfroid'/

noun

Pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune.

Best German word ever. There will be a lot of it to go around in the next four years. And unlike 'winning' this never gets old or tired...

Here's what's likely to happen. Money from the program will surely be cut. After all, billionaires need their tax cuts. What's left will be block granted to the states. Red states will do what they have always done, instead of distributing money fairly across all needy communities, communities mostly populated by non whites will be short changed. IOW, non white communities will end up subsidizing white communities.

These MAGA still bitching because they got what they asked for? Let them go to the Orange Inaugural and let their tears freeze outside in the cold.

This is not schaenfreude. This is disgust.

Everybody has to sacrifice to defeat liberalism.

That's what these rubes have been taught since birth.

Yeah, but they never thought it would have to be them, exactly.

I put an awful lot of stock in the notion that these people fully expected only the people they disliked to suffer, while they ate popcorn.

Let's check back with them in a year and see how many of them can afford popcorn.
