"Live - Perpetual Change" Tracklisting:

Yours Is No Disgrace Perpetual Change Close To The Edge Heart Of The Sunrise Starship Trooper Awaken And You And I Your Move/ I've Seen All Good People Gates Of Delirium Roundabout

Comments

"With The Band Geeks, the modus operandi seems to have been to provide Jon with the best possible and most faithful backing band to present a setlist of epic Yes tracks " including mega-epics like Close to the Edge and The Gates of Delirium " that a band like ARW would never have tackled.

So what you have here is a band that wants to respect and honour these classic songs, and a vocalist who is still able to hit the heights (vocally and emotionally) that this music needs."

Pretty sure I've had enough "prog rock" to last a lifetime. Didja see what it did to Steve Howe? Yikes.

I am really of two minds regarding the bands of my, I'll say. earlier days ....

1) I sincerely wish them continuing success.

2) I'll not attend a current concert or see them perform live in video. Why? Because i have my memories of how much an effect those groups had upon me back in the day. And I do not want to tarnish those memories by seeing the performers now.

Case in point, PBS recently had a fund-raising special "Best of the 60's" It was painful to watch.

I admit, I may be an outlier on this, but there is no way I'd want to see John Lodge trying to reenact the Moody Blues concert experience I had five decades ago.

I mean, back then, a concert I had tickets to in NYC was postponed because the Mellotron did not arrive on the scheduled airline cargo flight.

In another show, Ray mentions that this show was postponed because the equpment did not arrive; the show was made up within the week.
...

The "Ray" in that comment was Ray Thomas.

Ray Thomas

...Raymond Thomas (29 December 1941 " 4 January 2018) was an English musician, singer and songwriter.[1] He was best known as a founding member of the English progressive rock band the Moody Blues. His flute solo on the band's 1967 hit single "Nights in White Satin" is regarded as one of progressive rock's defining moments. In 2018, he was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Moody Blues.[2] ...

That was the interesting thing about this album... Jon Anderson still sounds great, and the Band Geeks are an excellent band no matter who they are playing with.

Some old acts you couldn't pay me to go see; they should have shut it down a long time ago.... like the Stones, for instance.

But this was actually refreshing.

#4 | Posted by Corky at 2025-03-27 08:41 PM

It's not Yes.
The Stones only have 2 original members left.
If you define "the band" as the lead singer...
Pretty much the same.
Generally cover bands suck, because they spend so much time trying to sound just like the original any hope of innovation goes out the window.

#5 | Posted by LegallyYourDead at 2025-03-27 08:50 PM

- It's not Yes.

Obviously.

- Generally cover bands suck

This one doesn't, which is one reason it's interesting.

@#6 ... which is one reason it's interesting. ...

For me, and i say this just for myself, if I go to a concert nowadays, I'd want to see a current group.

Since I listen to "alternative radio" and college stations, the group I would choose to go to see would be fun and interesting, and current.

But, sadly, I am unable to attend concerts anymore.

Noah Kahan is an artist I'd like to see in concert.

He came to fame during the COVID crisis, and now seems to be a major arena act.

While I wish him well for his success, I am sad because I did appreciate his earlier works.

Lyrics excerpt ...

...
[Verse 1]
As you promised me that I was more than all the miles combined
You must've had yourself a change of heart like halfway through the drive
Because your voice trailed off exactly as you passed my exit sign
Kept on drivin' straight and left our future to the right

Now I am stuck between my anger and the blame that I can't face
And memories are somethin' even smoking weed does not replace
And I am terrified of weather 'cause I see you when it rains
Doc told me to travel, but there's Covid on the planes

[Chorus]
And I love Vermont, but it's the season of the sticks
And I saw your mom, she forgot that I existed
And it's half my fault, but I just like to play the victim
I'll drink alcohol 'til my friends come home for Christmas

And I'll dream each night of some version of you
That I might not have, but I did not lose
Now you're tire tracks and one pair of shoes
And I'm split in half, but that'll have to do
...

"season of the sticks" here in New England is the fall. When leaves and branches fall off trees.

Unfortunately for the New Pornographers they lost Dan and Neko, it's just not the same.

Good jazz, on the other hand, doesn't really matter - players seem to play together more readily.

I've been lucky enough to have lived during what I think was a "golden age", but it's all perspective and personal experiences.

Political Science - Randy Newman | The Midnight Special

www.youtube.com

[Verse 1]
No one likes us, I don't know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
And all around, even our old friends put us down
Let's drop the big one and see what happens

[Verse 2]
We give them money, but are they grateful?
No, they're spiteful and they're hateful
They don't respect us, so let's surprise them
We'll drop the big one and pulverize them

[Verse 3]
Asia's crowded, Europe's too old
Africa is far too hot and Canada's too cold
And South America stole our name
Let's drop the big one, there'll be no one left to blame us

[Bridge]
We'll save Australia
Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo
We'll build an all-American amusement park there
They got surfing too

[Verse 4]
Boom goes London, boom Parie'
More room for you and more room for me
And every city the whole world 'round
Will just be another American town

Oh, how peaceful it'll be
We'll set everybody free
You wear a Japanese kimono, babe
There'll be Italian shoes for me

They all hate us anyhow
So let's drop the big one now
Let's drop the big one now

Yes jumped the shark for me in KC about 40 years ago.
Watching Anderson, in this diaphanous green fairy suit, going on about those "hoochie ------- women" during a cover of "Kansas City" was just too much to bear.
Maybe a quarter of "Topographic Oceans" was the last listenable record.

Gracie is a troll, constantly looking for a bridge to lurk under. When you fling poo, you knockoff Baba Yaga, you always seem to wind up with more than a little on yourself, don'cha?

Head And The Heart - Arrow (2024)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt ...

genius.com

...
[Verse 1]
You caught me staring off the cliff again
And looking down on everyone
Wish my goodbyes could be more innocent
But every part just wants to run

[Pre-Chorus]
I have this deep, deep feeling in my ribs again
I just keep, keep, keep moving on
Like the deep, deep current on the Riverbend
I have to keep, keep, keep moving on

[Chorus]
There's times I need direction
There's times I need to roam
I move station to station
I showed up here alone
I am my own arrow
I am my own home

[Post-Chorus]
It's all right, all right
It's all I've ever known
It's all right, it's all right
It's all right, it's all right
It's all I've ever known
It's all right, it's all right

[Verse 2]
So if you're falling through the cracks again
Maybe the fall was by dsign
'Cause someone's gonna brak your heart again
That's just proof that you're alive
...

The Head and the Heart went through a bit of a lull when they went with a different producer.

Now they seem to be self-producing again, and their new songs are much better.

Lyrics excerpt ...

[Verse 1]
Put your dreams away for now
I won't see you for some time
I am lost in my mind
I get lost in my mind

Momma once told me
"You're already home where you feel loved,"
I am lost in my mind
I get lost in my mind

[Verse 2]
Oh my brother
Your wisdom is older than me
Oh my brother
Don't you worry bout me
Don't you worry
Don't you worry
Don't worry about me

[Verse 3]
How's that bricklaying coming?
How's your engine running?
Is that bridge getting built?
Are your hands getting filled?
Won't you tell me, my brother?
'Cause there are stars up above

We can start moving forward
How's that bricklaying coming?
How's your engine running?
Is that bridge getting built?
Are your hands getting filled?
Won't you tell me, my brother?
